Bowman ponders on his dire situation for a few moments, then manuevers the Pod away from Discovery. He releases Poole's body into space to free up the Pod-Arms.
He returns to Discovery and positions the Pod near Discovery's emergency air lock.
With great care, he manipulates the Pod's claws to turn the emergency air lock's manual access hatch.
Turning the final manual access hatch, the exterior Pod Bay door slides open.
Bowman rotates the Pod to line up the Pod's door closely to the Discovery's emergency air lock entrance.
He activates the initial Pod door exploding bolts mechanism and positions himself for a violent exit. Bowman activates the final procedure for the exploding bolts, an audible alarm chants it's warning while he takes in a deep gulp of air to hold his breath and closes his eyes tightly.
A silent explosion jettisons Bowman outwards, his body crashing into the wall of the emergency air lock corridor and hurtling back towards the air lock opening.
Bowman manages to get a grip on the interior emergency air lock hatch and activates it, the air lock's exterior door slides shut. A loud rush of air fills the air lock, all of this is being viewed by Hal's lens.
DISSOLVE: Bowman, his suit now complete with a space helmet, is approaching with a determined focus.
HAL: Just what do you think you're doing, Dave?
Bowman doesn't answer, he works his way to the solid logic programme storage area.
HAL: Dave, I really think I'm entitled to an answer to that question.
He obtains an unlocking tool to open the memory center's secured door.
HAL: I know everything hasn't been quite right with me, but I can assure you now, very confidentally that it's going to be allright again. I feel much better now, I really do.
