Hannah: Help me, Mama. Mom! Momma!
Louise: Sorry, honey. What day is it, do you know baby?
Hannah: Sunday. Are you gonna leave me like Daddy did?
Louise: Oh, Hannah, honey, your daddy didn't leave you. You're gonna see him this weekend.
Hannah: He doesn't look at me the same way anymore.
Louise: It's my fault. I told him something that he wasn't ready to hear.
Louise: Well, believe it or not, I know something that's going to happen. I cannot explain how I know it, I just do. And when I told your daddy, he got really mad. He said I made the wrong choice.
Hannah: What? What's going to happen?
Louise: It has to do with a really rare disease. And it's unstoppable. Kind of like you are, with your swimming. You're so amazing. And your poetry and all the other amazing things that you share with the world.
Hannah: I'm unstoppable?
Ian: I got you. Louise?
Louise: I just realized why my husband left me.
Ian: You were married? Let's get out of here.
Hannah: Why's my name Hannah?
Louise: Well, your name is very special. Because it's a palindrome. It reads the same word from backwards.
"Universal Language by Louis Banks - Translating Heptapods - To Hannah"
Ian: Hey! We're done here. We're taking this with us.
Louise: I can read it. I know what it is.
Louise: It's not a weapon. It's a gift. The weapon is their language. They gave it all to us. Do you understand what that means?
Weber: So we can learn Heptapod?
Louise: If you learn it . . . really learn it, you get to perceive time the way they do. So you get to see what's to happen. But time, it isn't the same for them. It's nonlinear.
Weber: Look, we did our best, but it wasn't enough. The captain will lift off in five minutes. Ian, Louise, it was an honor to work with you. Good luck.
Ian: Hey, Colonel. [to Louise] I'll find out where we are going.
Hannah: Wake up, Mommy.
18 months into the future, Louise and Shang will meet face-to-face.
Shang: Doctor Banks, a pleasure.
Louise: General Shang, the pleasure is mine.
Shang: Your president said he was honored to host me in celebration. Of course, I confess the only reason why I am here is to meet you in person.
Louise: Me? Well, I'm flattered. Thank you.
Shang: 18 months ago, you did something remarkable. Something not even my superior has done.
Louise: And what's that?
Shang: You changed my mind. You are the reason for this unification. All because you reached out to me on my private number.
Louise: Your private number? General, I don't know your private number.
Shang: Now you know. I do not claim to know how your mind works, but I believe it was important for you to see that.
Louise: I called you, didn't I?
Shang: Yes, you did.
Louise takes Halpern's phone and heads away from crowd to call Shang's private number.
Halpern: Alright, let's shut down the system.
Soldier: Sir, there's a sat line here dialing China.
Halpern: Here? What do you mean, here?
Louise: Come on, answer.
Halpern: Whose phone is it?
Soldier: It's your phone, sir.
Halpern: Search the base camp now. Find out who is using that phone. Hold on to those co-ordinates.
Soldier: Yes, sir.
Louise: Come on. What do I say? What am I saying? Okay.
She and Ian lock themselves in the clean room as she talks to Shang (in Mandarian language) over the phone.
Shang: [18 months later] I will never forget what you said. You told me my wife's dying words.
Soldier: We found the source of the phone call. It's in the clean room. Waiting for instructions.
Ian: Louise, what are you doing?
Louise: Changing his opinion. Can you buy me twenty seconds? We don't have time. Trust me. Twenty seconds. Do you trust me? It's all right.
Soldier: Doctor Banks, drop the phone or we shoot. Drop it!
Ian: I'm sorry!
Soldier: You are committing an act of treason! Drop it!
Louise: It's done. I got it.

Louise: [narrating] So, Hannah, this is where your story begins. The day they departed.
Ian: Are you alright?
Louise: [narrating] Despite knowing the journey and where it leads, I embrace it. And I welcome every moment of it.
Louise and Hannah: H-A-N-N-A-H.
Louise: Now backwards. H-A-N-N-A-H. Hannah.
Ian: You ready, baby?
Ian: Hey. It's okay? Yes, you can go.
Ian: You okay? I'll just roll over you. Are you ready? Guess what. All star stuff.
Louise [at Montana site]: If you see your whole life from start to finish, would you change things?
Ian: [at Montana site] Maybe I say what I feel more often. I don't know. You know, I've had my head tilted up to the stars for as long as I can remember. But you know what surprised me? It wasn't meeting them. It was meeting you.
Louise: [at Montana site] I forgot how good it felt to be held by you.
Ian: Do you want to make a baby?
Louise: Yes. Yeah.
