Zack Snyder to direct 'Superman'
Unlikely Brandon Routh will return
Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures have zeroed in on Zack Snyder to get Superman on the bigscreen again. Once Snyder's deal is hammered out, the helmer behind the adaptations of the graphic novels "300" and "The Watchmen," as well as the equally visual "Sucker Punch," out next year, will work closely with Christopher Nolan to reboot the franchise.
Nolan, of course, revised the Batman franchise for Warner Bros., and is set to direct the third installment, skedded for July 20, 2012, and the studio has turned to the director to oversee development of Superman. Routh isn't likely to don the red and blue tights again, Snyder said.
The studio is hoping to get the new film ready for release into theaters for holiday 2012. That would give the studio two powerhouse franchise films through its DC division that Warner Bros. is trying to breathe new life into across various divisions, starting with next summer's "Green Lantern."

The Internet flurry included reports that, according to Thomas, might be better described as fan fiction. The dispatches revealing that the film will be called “Man of Steel”? And feature Lex Luthor and Brainiac? Or the one about it being a period piece with something like a low-fi version of the hero? “I don’t know where this stuff comes from,” Thomas said with a chuckle, although, as with any good poker player, it’s hard to say where the bluff starts and ends

Chris Nolan Looks For 'Superman' Director
Warner Brothers film execs are telling Deadline there will be major announcements involving DC characters coming in 4 weeks. But I can tell you now that Superman producers Chris Nolan and Emma Thomas are getting closer to resuscitating the Man of Steel. I'm told they have begun meeting with a short list of directors for the job of directing Superman, the picture which will be financed by Warner Bros and Legendary Pictures.
On the list: Unstoppable's Tony Scott, Let Me In director Matt Reeves, Battle: Los Angeles helmer Jonathan Liebesman (who just got the Warner Bros/Legendary job of directing Clash of the Titans 2), Duncan Jones, who just directed Source Code, and helmer Zack Snyder
