If you Google the phrase 'Top War Movies of All Time', you will find a wide variety of surveys that put war movie classics like Apocalypse Now anywhere from 1st place to 15th place. So we decided to showcase our five favorite war movies. We selected these top five because of their pure battle action brilliantly created by the film masters Stanley Kubrick, Oliver Stone, Ridley Scott, Steven Spielberg, and Francis Ford Coppola.

Looking at only the war films that made at least five of the nine polls narrows the list significantly. If you were to average out how they ranked, they would stack up in the following order (the lower the score, the higher the rank) . . . . .
1. Apocalypse Now (8 polls) - Average rank = 3.8
2. Saving Private Ryan (6 polls) - Average rank = 4.1
3. Platoon (6 polls) - Average rank = 5.8
4. Bridge/River Kwai (6 polls) - Average rank = 6.2
5. Full Metal Jacket (6 polls) - Average rank = 6.3
Obviously this does not make this the definitive top five war films of all time. Numerous polls in the dozens may bear out different results. But it would be a safe bet that these five films would certainly be contenders in an expanded poll.
