Nauls notices a figure exiting the main entrance and runs off further down the compound.
NAULS: Hey guys come here . . . come here. . . I think I saw Childs outside the main entrance of the camp.
GARRY: What's he doing outside?
A moment later, most of the lights go out in the camp, emergency lamps kick on.
GARRY: Got a flare?
Inside Blair's shack, MacReady ignites a flare.
MACREADY: He got back inside and blew the generator. . . In six hours, it will be a hundred below in here.
GARRY: Well that's suicide!
MACREADY: Not for that Thing. It wants to freeze now. It's got now way out of here. It just wants to go to sleep in the cold until a rescue team finds it.
GARRY: What can we do? . . What can we do!?
MACREADY: Whether we make it or not, we can't let the Thing freeze again. Maybe we'll just warm things up a little around here. . . We're not getting out of here alive . . . but neither is that Thing.
Beginning with Blair's shack, MacReady throws a package of lit dynamite down the dug out hole. It rolls to a rest just underneath Blair's ship. The entire shack erupts in a fiery explosion.
Then they crash a bulldozer into the compound, puncturing it's fuel tanks with an ax.
Several sequences are shown of the men's onslaught of explosions.
They make their way through the compound heaving explosives in each room.
A trail of fiery explosions follow behind them.
MACREADY: Generator room.
MacReady ignites another fuse for light and the men head down a set of stairs to the generator room.
Garry heads toward a wired enclosure that houses the generator.
GARRY: The generator's gone.
MACREADY: Anyway we can fix it?
GARRY: It's GONE, MacReady.
MOMENTS LATER: MacReady sets down a detonator.
MACREADY: Allright, we got to bring this whole place right down to the ice. Garry, plant yours in the old storage room. . . Nauls, down by the generator.
The men get to work. Nauls, in the generator area laying charges. Garry doing the same in the old storage room, MacReady in the background preparing the detonator.
Garry continues further into the old storage room laying down dynamite and wire. He stops to remove his head gear and fiddles with his failing flashlight.
Suddenly . . . Blair seems to appear from nowhere. Garry is startled, but Blair quickly shoves his hand in Garry's face, pushing him backwards and out of view from the others.
As Garry struggles, Blair's fingers are 'embedding' into Garry's flesh.
Perfectly calm and no emotion, the Blair-Thing quietly continues the attack on Garry.
Garry is shaking and moaning, but it's muffled from the Blair-Thing's hand. The Thing looks both directions to make sure it is not noticed.
Unaware of what's happening in the storage room, MacReady and Nauls continue their work. Garry's face now completely encased with mutated flesh, the Blair-Thing drags Garry's body out of sight.
Nauls, alarmed, walks slowly forward, as if he noticed something. He walks further down the corridor. Silence.
MacReady calls out as he's working on the detonator.
MACREADY: How's it comin' in there? . . . I said how's it . . . . .
No response. . . He looks, both men are gone.
Alarmed, he lifts the lever on the detonator. MacReady stands up and slowly walks forward. A beat. He lights a stick of dynamite. Long silence.
